Sustainable Workplaces

Sustainable Workplaces

We actively model our workplaces for optimal efficiency, sustainability, and health, from the initial planning of the workplaces - including our studios and offices - to ongoing renovations and upgrades. Employees are encouraged to take part in innovation that promotes more efficient and responsible business practices.

We focus on the following key levers across our workplaces:

Green Building Certifications

WBD adheres to green building certification standards whenever possible for owned facilities or facilities within the Company's operational control to help optimize energy efficiency and operational costs. Across our global facilities, we have 28 certifications from various entities, including Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) in the U.K.; Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED); WELL Building Standard (WELL); and UL Verified Healthy Building for Indoor Air and Water.

Operational Efficiency

We improve operational efficiency and reduce costs across our facilities. Our Global Real Estate and Studio Operations teams implement energy-saving measures such as upgrading lighting; enhancing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; and installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. We track energy use across our owned and operated offices and studios through building management systems and introduce Smart Building Technology to enhance energy, operational, and maintenance efficiency. Where possible, sustainability is integrated into new construction plans and facility upgrades, supported by our Gold membership with the U.S. Green Building Council to stay informed on best practices.

Renewable Energy

We aim to reduce GHG emissions by investing in renewable energy and on-site solar systems. We have on-site solar panels at facilities in Poland and Warner Bros. Studios Burbank. In 2025, WBD generated and purchased a total of 40,192 megawatt-hours (MWh)* of renewable energy across multiple countries, including 244 MWh generated on-site. Additionally, Warner Bros. Studios Burbank offers renewable diesel for its fleet, and the Chiswick and Stockley Park in Uxbridge locations use renewable diesel for generators, reducing emissions compared to conventional diesel.

*Countries are France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and United States; All contractual instruments used in the market-based method (MBM) are in alignment with the GHG Protocol Scope 2 Quality Criteria. There were 6 WBD sites with green tariffs and 2 WBD sites with onsite solar that did not meet the Scope 2 Quality Criteria to be used in the market-based calculation. For MBM calculations, where contractual instruments and residual mix factors were not available, a grid-average emission factor was applied based on the average electricity generation mix in the defined geographic region. The use of grid average factors in the MBM may result in double-counting of renewable electricity between electricity consumers. Renewable energy generated from hydropower was assigned an emission factor of 0, consistent with prior-year methodology. Similarly, in cases where biomass represented a negligible proportion of the fuel mix (approximately 0.1%), emissions from biomass were treated as de minimis and an emission factor of 0 was applied.

Waste Reduction

We implement initiatives to reduce and divert waste, which saves resources, lowers costs, and cuts GHG emissions. These efforts include reusing and donating production materials, reducing sources of waste, recycling, composting, donating leftover food, and minimizing single-use items.

Water Management

We aim to reduce water use across our operations. For example, at Warner Bros. Studios Burbank, a new storm water infiltration system was added, and automatic pH controllers were installed on water towers to standardize chemistry and decrease usage. Reclaimed water is used for landscaping and cooling towers, and infiltration systems allow water to slowly seep into the ground.

Sustainable Productions

Sustainable Productions

Managing our production-related environmental impacts and creating more efficient productions are key to minimizing our Company's footprint. We consider regulations, technology, infrastructure, and costs when identifying and executing improvement opportunities.

The Corporate Social Responsibility team collaborates with production groups to address measurement and reduction of environmental impacts from productions, sharing best practicies and coordinating GHG emissions data measurement.

For example, the production team for Warner Bros. Television's Shrinking reduced its environmental footprint during production of its third season by addressing fuel use through renewable diesel for production vehicles, electric vehicles, and solar-powered trailers; improving energy efficiency with LED lighting; reusing the set for another Company production; and reducing waste by donating leftover food. WBD Sports EMEA delivers sustainability commitments through its CSR program, WBD Sports Together, focusing on integrating sustainability principles into day-to-day operations, including implementing more responsible production practices, working with partners to reduce environmental impact across events, and strengthening measurement and continuous improvement processes.

Our five production focus areas
  • Fuel: Enforcing no-idling policies; implementing cleantech equipment, such as battery energy storage systems and solar trailers; installing or using existing electrical connections to the local power grid on location, when possible, to avoid or reduce usage of diesel generators; utilizing alternative fuels like renewable diesel; and pursuing electric vehicles (EVs) to support production.
  • Materials: Buying sustainable products, such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified plywood for sets, reusable and compostable products, and recycled paper.
  • Waste: Reducing solid waste by reusing set materials throughout production and among WBD productions, recycling and composting materials, aiming to avoid single-use or non-recyclable products on set and in production offices, donating production materials and food, and implementing virtual and digital production practices like electronic document distribution.
  • Electricity: Reducing electrical demands by maximizing LED set lighting, powering down equipment when idle, automating efficiency through timers and programmable thermostats, and utilizing renewable energy, when possible.
  • Reporting: Calculating GHG emissions and setting environmental key performance indicators to measure our impact and identify our priority areas for improvement.

Products and Packaging

Products and Packaging

We consider the environmental impact of our products and packaging at our studios, aligning with our customers' preferences and business efficiency goals.

The Warner Bros. Studio Operations team works closely with suppliers to explore and encourage solutions that reduce the impacts of packaging. Examples of our actions include:

  • Switching to FSC-quality paper-based packaging for items like swing tags and badge holders
  • Reducing plastic by using paper-based or reusable packaging and shopping bags, and when plastic is used, requiring at least 30% recycled content
  • Using sustainable cotton in self-developed apparel lines
  • Shipping or selling apparel lines without hangers to minimize waste
  • Encouraging recycled polyester in softline products, homewares, and general textile products
  • Using reusable tins and packaging for select food lines in the U.K. and Japan
