–MotorTrend Also Announces 2023 Software-Defined Vehicle Innovator Award Finalists, Includes Ford, Hyundai, Stellantis–
Today at the Los Angeles Auto Show, MotorTrend announced the Genesis G90 as the winner of its Golden Calipers for Car of the Year. Besting more than 20 candidates, the 2023 Car of the Year winner stood out from its fierce competition thanks to a fresh exterior design modeled in the form of a classic luxury sedan, the latest in features and technology, and a gorgeous, opulent, and comfortable interior worthy of its price point.
“We are proud to honor the Genesis G90 with our 2023 Car of the Year award,” said MotorTrend Group Head of Editorial Ed Loh. “The flagship Genesis G90 is luxury distilled—everything you see, touch and experience has been carefully considered and executed with the greatest of care, from crisp lines of the body work, to quilted-leather and warm wood surfaces throughout the interior, and surprisingly intuitive technological touches. Genesis has managed to defy logic and accomplish all of this at a price its rivals cannot match. For these reasons and more, MotorTrend’s 2023 Car of the Year, the Genesis G90, has set a new standard for luxury.”
MotorTrend Car of the Year judges evaluated each vehicle against six key criteria, with the G90 excelling at each: efficiency, value, advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, and performance of the intended function. The Genesis luxury sedan was evaluated side by side with numerous highly regarded vehicles, coming out on top against finalists that included the Acura Integra, BMW i4, BMW 2 Series, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, and Honda Civic Type R. With the G90, Genesis has put the established industry stalwarts on notice about how serious it is about advancing its already solid reputation in the luxury car segment. “It’s elegant, formal, and timeless in a way its competitors aren’t,” said features editor Christian Seabaugh. “I think the G90 is going to age incredibly well.”
The G90’s interior is richly equipped, intuitive to use, and welcoming. Every font, feature, ergonomic control, and trim material is brilliantly executed. The rear seating area is a particular strong point, thanks to its heated and cooled, reclining, and massaging seats which are accessed via the car’s powered, soft-close doors. There is a Chauffeur suspension mode, which prioritizes rear seat passenger comfort, and the resulting experience is outstanding. MotorTrend judges came away convinced that the Genesis G90 is among the most comfortable and cosseting luxury sedans in the world. “It’s basically a spa on wheels,” said associate editor Billy Rehbock.
With incredible attention paid to the smallest details, Genesis has another winner on its hands and has earned its top spot on the podium as the 2023 MotorTrend Car of the Year.
